New To The Site

Hello all. As some of the new people here, I found this site quite by accident. I am kind of new to photography, but have had an interest in it since I was a kid. My boyfriends' mom took a look at ... Continue

About Me:
My life is currently in chaos. My photography keeps me sane. It's a way to escape but yet, at the same time it reminds me that there is beauty in the world. When I'm out shooting I don't think about anything. I just focus on the shot.

Photography has also brought me new friends, which, at the moment, I desperately need. I love to talk about all things photography. This is my passion.

I am going to turn my passion and hobby into a business. Right now I do some stock work for microstock companies. I haven't sold anything, but it's always nice to get that email that says my photo has been chosen for sale. I want to be a freelance photographer, working here and there. My dream job would be to be a staff photographer for National Geographic.
My Equipment
Panasonic DMC-LZ 6 digital point-and-shoot (for now). I am hoping to upgrade to either a Canon or Nikon as soon as I can afford it.

"Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band.

A truly inspirational song that reminds me to always dream big because you never know what could happen!

This just about sums up my twisted sense of humor!! LOL

This Months' "Outdoor Photographer" magazine

I subscribe to "Outdoor Photographer" magazine. I have learned alot from reading this magazine. And this months' issue is no exception. One of the main purposes of photography is to get the person(s) looking at a photograph to stop and think. Well, this month there are 2 articles that really made me stop and think. Check out "Digital Manipulation of the Landscape" on page 49 and and "Be Like The Sunset" on page 40. I'd like to know what you all think if you read those articles. I won't give a… Continue

Sunsets

Ok, I will admit it... I am ADDICTED to shooting sunsets. I have been trying to think of places near me where I can go to get that perfect shot. Don't worry.. one of these days I WILL find it!!! There is just something so beautiful, so soothing, and so peaceful about a sunset. I went to a nearby lake today after work so I could get some shots of the sun as it was setting. The air was cold and the wind was colder. By the time I had given up, I couldn't move my finger enough to even turn the came… Continue

Exercise in Perspective...something to try!

The afore mentioned booked (from my last post) has some really good exercises in it. I stumbled across one while reading this morning. I tried it. (I think I have to try again! lol) The exercise is in a section on lines and curves. Here it is: Try this: Choose an object in your immediate vicinity--the more mundane the better. Use your viewfinder (or LCD screen) to search for points of view that portions of your chosen subject into compositions of lines, curves, and shapes. The photographs y… Continue

Book Review

I just bought this book at Border's. I have finally gotten a chance to start reading it. It's called "Photo Idea Index" by Jim Krause. The gist of the book is to jump-start the imagination. There are all sorts of ideas, suggestions, and projects to do, all of which are well within a frugal budget. As a matter of fact, the author encourages readers to look around them, to use your imagination, and whatever is at hand at the moment to use as subject matter or even supplies! All the photos in the… Continue

"Photographer's Eye" or is it?

I recently read somewhere that as photographers we have learned to see things differently. I pondered this today as I drove to a local state park to take some pictures. Do we really see things differently or have we just learned to appreciate the beauty that is around us? Do we "see" with our hearts rather than with our heads? Have we learned to finally "stop and smell the roses"? If you put 2 people together.. one who is a photographer, and one who is not, will they see things the same? Chance… Continue

Thanks for the great comment on my first blog post. It is much appreciated.

I took a little while getting this far down your home page, I really got a laugh from some of the bumper stickers.

And that was after I listened to the "Big Dream" song. Good stuff.

Your latest photos are great also, I especially like the softness of the photos.

You are partly responsible for my venturing into HDR's, after you recommended a photo magazine that you had read. While looking for that magazine I found the one that got me into HDR's.

Well done and thanks again.

Cheers Frank K

Hi Linda,

Thanks for adding me as a friend. You have some really nice photos. A lot of people don't think there is much color in winter outdoors pictures (but we know different)! I especially like your Albany skyline shot. Seeing the state plaza brings back nice memories of visiting the museum on my way to Lake George area backpacking trips.
