I honestly don't think it is a question of acting like something we are not - at least I hope not;) As you say it is a place for everyone, and everyone is welcomed, no matter their level of photogr... Continue

About Me:
Just started trotting around in a world of photos, and loving the experience.
I'm aiming at eventually producing photos good enough for me to sell them professionally - so please give constructive criticism on anyhing you see in here!

Other than that, I'm currently living in Québec, where I teach English - any would be students out there..;-). Also, I'm enrolled in the NYIP Professional Photo Course, and I will share my thoughts on this course as I progress.

Anywho, guess that's enough for now - keep composing out there:-)
My Equipment
My first camera =) Olympus E-410 with 14-42 mm + 40 - 150 mm lenses. Also the proud owner of (according to the manufacturer) a sturdy tripod.

Returned home

Months have passed by since I last contributed to this site - months where my life gripped me and propelled me across the Atlantic. Into the arms of forgotten memories. Feet planted on Danish soil, I feel time trickling back into my life. Slowly I drag photos into the light. Moments lost on dusty shelves, obscured by travel books and apartment hunt. So far, I have only added 7 new photos - all in Black & White (going down the same road). Hopefully more time will find its way past me, but un… Continue

A few choice words on the Canadian winter...

Over here, in the land of Syrup and Hockey, I find that winter has an entirely different meaning, than the one I am normally familiar with. Here it means 6(!!) nose-dripping months of bone chilling winds, feet upon feet of snow and people wrapped in more scarf's than I thought humanly possible.
And how does this effect my photography? Well, picture this: Your hands are turning blue as your fingers tremble across the camera, tentatively reaching for the shutter release. Looking through the v… Continue

How do I get the right print size?

I shoot with an Olympus E-410, a camera that I am very happy with.
My problem though, is the fact that it shoots in 4:3 instead of 3:2. So when I want my pictures developed, all of which I have of course composed just like I want them, I end up having to crop parts of the image, for it to fit the printoutsize.
Is there any addition to Photoshop, that shows you how much of your image will fit within the frames of the standard size for developed pictures? Or possibly there is such a thin… Continue

Daisey is a very special cat to me my wife found her walking towards her she was maybe 8 days old she was nearly dead bubbles coming out of her eyes nose and ears a very sick puppy, we got her strength back after some weeks of intensive care, we tied to save her eye and she had a cornea transplant but I don't think she can see very much with that eye, I do not particular like cats we have 10 (that I know of) but she is very special to me. Any way thanks for the comments and here is how I make the frames,
It is realy very easy. Take your photos to Photoshop make a layer the make another layer with the same photograph Layer 2. Reduce the image size of layer 1 Now you will see layer 1 and the edge of layer 2,.Select layer 2 and give it a lot of blur with gausian blur select layer style and use bevel and emboss and maybe inner shadow just play with it till you reach the effect you like, the select layer 1 and select layer style and select bevel and emboss and accent it a little also use drop shadow it is very effective and that's all there is to it.
The way I made it around the Tucan is different make a new file in photoshop make it much larger than the photograph you want to frame than ad stroke this will give tou the basis of the frame go to layer style and go to blending modes choose bevel and emboss and play with it till you have the effect that you like, the duplicate the layer and crop out the frame, go back to layer styles and repeat the same procedure as before choosing your own
style with bevel and emboss but also use drop shadow than select your photo and select Cmd A and hold down the shift key and paste it onto the first two layers, you might have to use scale if needed again select layer styles and use the same procedure only a little bit and innershadow after you have reached the effect you look for flatten the layer and save it.
try it and Good Luck

Thanks, the lighting was as it came out of the camera. I didn't do any white balance for this shot, so it may just be a freak shot.
