I am going to go to Chico in the fall of '08 with a major in Communication studies: Graphic Design. At the same time I am going to go to Butte Community college to take more classes in photography.
I mainly love to Shoot sports and nature. I also love shooting "Life."
By Life I mean the things that happen everyday. I like to just walk around my little hometown and take pictures of people and objects that strike me as interesting.
My Equipment
I have a measly Canon Rebel xti.
I use primarily a 18 - 55mm lens, and when shooting some sports I like to use my 75 - 300mm zoom.
I also have a super fisheye extension that I use for more artistic shots.
And my lovely 4gb card.
Hey Josh, there's a Skateboarding photo group on Redbubble and you can even get the opportunity to sell you photos on there too: http://www.redbubble.com/skateboarding-photography
Josh -- thanks for joining the Citizen Photojournalism group. Your skateboarding shots are definitely prime sports photos. I work for an online news site, wesay.com and I would suggest you send a few of those shots in for the contest. The contest is FREE, not a scam, and even if you don't win, you will get these fine pix published.
That's true. Skate boarding and surfing are very similar - getting smashed/dumped in water (as painful as it can be) is still not as painful as falling onto concrete though, I must say. He he.
Hey Josh,
Thanks for your comments about my photos. I think yours are amazing too. You have inspired me to get back down to my local skate parks in the next week and share some more snaps with you.
hi Josh,
it seems you haven't been too lucky with your skateboard discussion. I happened to be a skateboard shooter as well, and I will post some pictures later. I can see that you mostly use your 75- 300 zoom for shooting sports. I'm afraid it is not the best bet most of the time, as long focal length tend to flatten the dynamic of the image. I used to zoom a lot as well, but practising made me find out that you get more powerful and dramatic shots using wider angles.
On the other hand, what makes some shots lack dynamic is the angle of shooting. I mean that basically, you get strong and dynamic pictures when you are as a lower level than the subjects. Then you have to be really close to the subject.
Hi there Josh - well, I've put my first batch of photoes online for your and everyone elses viewing pleasure. Can see that you're into taking skateboard photoes - and some really cool ones at that!
