So I just finished up my digitl photo I course this summer! I got an A on all of my projects and and an A for the semester! Hopefully, when I recieve my portfolio back I will be able to scan and post my pictures! They are RAW files, due to the professor making us shoot in it. Anybody know another way I could upload them from my camera without having to scan the finished copies? I dont have photoshop so I cant view RAW files on my computer, or so I think ;] Thanks!!! There's no trick really. Just get as close as you can, reasonable shutterspeed to freeze any movement and then maybe crop in a little to get closer, if the sharpness & resolution allow... (Take a look at 'Bee' in my gallery - this one is done this way)
Hope this helps

Hi Mandy. I agree about the close-ups and fast shutter speed usage of the D40 but you're wrong about me having extra lenses... Everything in my gallery was taken with the stock 18-55mm, although some of the real close macros were done with the aid of an old 35mm lens (from an old Practika SLR) inverted on the end of the Nikon - I was experimenting by holding it on the end while I took the shots- and it worked!

Congrats on your grades! Keep up the good work...

Thanks for the add, and if I can be of any help free feel to ask!

I fell in love with the D40 when I tried it in Jan of last year...This Jan I bought it and still love it...It is a great beginner dslr cam.

I use Picasa and Irfanview with basic editing features (in re: Irfanview, you can add plugins if you like to do more post processing)...if your looking for starters-they do work and are freeee...Then there are the ones you may purchase...too-spendy for me...I'm sure there is more but I use these mainly and conjunctively (is thAT A WORD? LOL). Well now I'll be off to view your photos!

How you getting on with the D40?

Hi Mandy. Thanks for your lovely comment - you're too kind!!
As for editing software, I used Picasa on your plane. It's a free title from Google and although not feature-filled, it's fine for quick tweaks. As for full-on software without the full-on price, try Gimp. Gimp is opensource software which is 100% free, fully supported and updated and full of features. Find it here:
http://www.gimp.org/
Hope this helps, Scott.
