About Me:
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. I have only been shooting digital for about the past 5 years. I am currently shopping for a new camera. I want to get away from the point and shoot digitals and get somekind of digital SLR. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Still waiting....

I am still trying to be patient while waiting to get my new camera. I have been looking over some of my photos and have posted a few more. Hopefully I will get some good constructive criticism to help me to improve my photography. I am thinking that even though I can't shoot any new photos right now, at least I can look at my old ones and analyze how I could have made them better! :)

Looking and thinking is a really good idea. Remember, that whatever camera you may get, it's your brain and your "eye" that are the most important tools you have.

CANON PRODUCTS ALL THE WAY...........
FOTO CONNECTION in New York is a outstanding place to buy a new camera. Ask for Owen ( excellent customer and sales service Rep ) tell him joe from massachusetts advise you to buy from him. (The guy who sounds like (sean penn) from the Mystic River Movie) I bought alot of new equipment from him and spent over $8000.00 in the store. It would of been a hell of alot more anywhere else.

I shoot Canons. The Xti is and excellent field camera and D40 and D5 are marvelous in the studio, but occaisionally are pack for field work. I'm pretty hard on cameras in making them work in outdoor, and subfreezing weather. I started out with Nikons, the Canon was a gift from a well intentioned relative so it was a meaningful conversion. Again, I rarely look back.

Michele; In responce to your Q' on an SLR. There are a number of quality SLR and as many opinions on the systems. But unless your are loaded with cash or have someone bank rolling your enthusiasm, then you make an investment on a system an stick to it. Canons, Nikons, and Sonys are just a few quality systems that have entry level and reasonably priced cameras that will give you SLR quality and features. I have come to a conclusion that it doesn't matter the quality of the camera that make a visual statement. It is the photographer. The camera increase your quality and sucess ratio, (something the failure ratio too),

What SLR opens up to you is a variety of lenses, attachments, and features that are not available on point and shoots. You can go into studio ventures and night time , or macros that are all features that SLRs will provide. My recommendation is to go to a camera store or Best Buy type store and hold the camera. Play with the buttons and feel how it handles in your hands. Can you easily reach all the features with the camera in the ready position. Or in the "ready to shoot" position. Nice way to say, "at your face". This will be kind of like sitting in a car and playing with the buttons and stuff, when you at shopping for a new one.

Once you get one. What ever it is. Dont look back. Dont even look at sales of some one who might be selling theirs for a cheaper price. (never give regret a chance to disappoint if you can help it) Just get reading the instruction manual, ( I know that sounds weird coming form a guy and recommending reading the instruction manual), and get to learn; first the basic operating features and shoot for a little while. Then later, come back read read the more detailed and advanced features to begin taking full controll of your imaging. You will impress your self and us.

These are just a few ideas. Everyone has opinions so try to keep things real and affordable. Save buying the really expensive things until, if ever, you are ready to break into the proffessional world. I personally enjoy the enthusiasm level just to keep it fun. Thats what I advise, Keep it fun. Go to the next level when you get bored with an idea. And don't forget to show off here. Look at the stuff, (work), dislpayed here for new ideas. We'll mentor and advise, (this is a very user friendly site). Don't take critisism to harshly, since the members here are from all over the world and sometimes phrasology comes out a little odd after a translations. Welcome and I await patiently for your results.
