Sony, Canon, Pentax - oh my: Thanks for all the advice!

Thank you so much to everyone for giving their input in Sony, Canon, Pentax - oh my!

In the end Best Buy had an in-store offer I couldn't refuse. 2 years no interest on an in-stock item. I went with the Canon 40D because I liked the weight and the feature set, and it was within my (approved) budget after the protection plan, etc. I still think Nikons are wonderful and am blown away by the work that all of you are doing no matter what you're shooting with.

Now on my short list are: a flash unit, a tripod and a few less expensive lenses (I've already had a couple suggested). Maybe a battery grip by Christmas, if I'm REALLY good.

What I'm doing now is reading a lot, experimenting, and trying to learn as much as possible. I know I have a lot to learn from all of you, and appreciate your input!

Permalink Reply by Daniel Ray on July 7, 2008 at 11:30pm: Get the Canon 580EX II Speedlite flash. It is rather pricy but it is by far the best flash for the Canon 40D and in the long run is less epensive if you plan to add one or more slave flashes such as the Canon 430EX.

BTW, Great camera choice! I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon 40D back in November and I love this camera.; ▶ Reply to This
