I want to purchase some filters any ideas on which ones are best?

Go to cokin filters at http://www.cokin.com/ico3-p0.html just to check out some of the effects you can get. There are just so many with so many different effects, it DOES depend on what you want to do with them.

Click on the filter you want to check out, then click on the individual filters and it will show you the effects that they have on actual photo's :o); ▶ Reply to This

I have bought a uv lense for each of my lenses and i bought one polorized lense, I think that this is where I will stop. Francois you are write if I take a pic with my filter that is it no going back, but I can do the same in an editing program, so this is where I stand. I thank you all soooo much!!!!; ▶ Reply to This

Excellent information here that I have found very helpful. I am looking to get a polarizing filter but cannot afford the top quality or more expensive one.....can anyone recommend a decent quality polarizer for a better price? I have looked on Amazon and found some Hoya filters that are fairly cheap. I have heard that Hoya's glass they use is one of the best...would these be ok to get?

Also this may be a silly question...but do I put the polarizer on then the UV filter or can I put it over the UV filter?

Permalink Reply by Daniel Cossack on June 14, 2008 at 4:24am: I think Hoya filters are very decent. I have one myself. You put the UV filter on first, then the polarizer. The polarizer should always be the outermost filter so it can be turned easily.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Francois Cleroux on June 14, 2008 at 6:57am: Every piece of glass you put in front of your lens degrades the image. I would not recomment putting the polarizer on top of the UV.

Having said that, if you are just taking "pics" as you travel and such, yes its convienient. If you want to get that perfect "photo" for enlargements, take the time and take the UV off first.

NOTE: If you have a FULL frame camera or if you use a Non-full frame lens on a non-full frame camera you can run into Vignetting problems if you double up on filters. Specially with Wide Angle Lenses.; ▶ Reply to This
