Well I am sure when they wrote these units they were writing towards a person whbo knows nothing about a digital camera. I was told there are parts that will probably be boring to a person depending on how much they know. Even the short course that is more directed towards Photoshop. I am still pretty positive about this type of online course. Good luck on your first assignment. What do they have you doing on your first unit?

Hi guys - well, I should be rounding up shooting the pictures for the first unit sometime next week.
There are three pictures they want you to take: One with shallow DOF, one with deep DOF and one with motion. So it's very basic, but also very loose.

I found a great website for more info on NYIP and their courses.

Here you can actually see all the assignments, view pictures that other people have taken for the course and speak with people who are either thinking if taking the course, taking the course or have finished the course:)

Just caught the discussion on this ... I rec'd some info from NYIP some time ago and it looked interesting. There is no education/training in my area neither. If you wouldn't mind keeping us posted on how it is going and what your thought are I know I would really appreciate it.

Hi everyone - I just received Unit 2 + 3 in the mail yesterday, and have already leapt through the first lesson on Image Capture. Sadly (for me) this first lesson (and much of Unit 2) focuses primarily on the subject of Film photography. Something I find, if not outdated, then at least unnecessary for the direction I'm taking with photography. I would rather see this material changed in favour of fx a discussion on art, and the techniques of different famous/interesting photographers - but that's just my view.
Other than this, the material looks fine - not everything is updated though. It is clear that they are still working on updating some of the written material, but I guess what was once true about light, is still true today;)

For some reason I have yet to receive the commentary/critique on my Unit 1 Photo Project. I just wrote them an email asking about this, so I should probably have some answers by next week. Perhaps they just think my photos were so brilliant, that they wanted to keep them a little longer;)

Anywho, I'll keep you posted as I progress - keep composing out there!

I was under the impression that all of their course work was for standard film photography. i was enrolled and became undecided as to what to do. I am definately a digital freak and I realize that the general theory behind it is the same. Have you found that it is geared more towards film rather than digital? I know too that they offer a mini digital course. Perhaps taking the professional course and the mini digital would be the best option. Any feedback?
