Nancy

Just sayin' "hey" --

Been a bit out of touch recently and have missed everyone. Been working at setting up my own website for use as a portfolio and maybe sell a print now and then. I have no illusions about becoming a "great photographic artist" in the near future. That, if it ever comes close to happening, will take a lot more work and time.

But I'm a very pragmatic person and I believe there are people out there in "business-land" that may pay me a few bucks to help them with their photography needs now and again. Daughter-in-law works for an architectural firm that specializes in noise abatement and may have a little job for me. Now tell me, is this BORING or what -- pix of them setting up their equipment at some houses by the airport that the city needs to insulate for sound. But ya know what, they'll pay me, and that will be a job that I can use as a referral, so what the hey!!!!

I figure, everybody's gotta' start somewhere, and I know that for me, it's not gonna be at National Geographic. But it will help me by forcing me to work with my equipment, meet deadlines, and generally take care of the business I hope to grow into something more than the boring and mundane to a mix that includes more artistic and challenging endeavors. So wish me luck guys.

Here's a little story I'll share -- I know a lot of architects. And "all" of them leave school with the ambition of becoming the next big name designer. And I can say that, without exception, every one of them came crashing down to earth when they got out there into the real world. It takes a lot of time and work and risk to reach that higher rung of the ladder.

So, I figure for a lot of us, it's gonna take some time and work in the trenches, but the road we have to travel to get there will be worth the trek, because we'll be better prepared than most because of all the lessons we'll learn along the way.

So guys, talk to ya later. Hope everyone is doin' good. Take good care.

Thanks ichtus. The assignment went well. I was told that everyone involved felt that I delivered in accordance to their expectations. When I delivered the disc, I also included a few prints of shots I thought the participants might enjoy having. A little public relations effort. As far as the web site, it's coming along. Expect that it will serve more as a portfolio than a sales site. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Best of luck Nancy. I have actually decided to take the dive too and try and make some money out of this expensive hobby. I would be happy if I can make enough to pay for my gear and my gadgets :)

Thanks for your comment Ovidiu. The one assignment I've done went well. Again, I totally don't see myself as skilled enough to create what I would consider fine art photos. But I figure that a little of this and a little of that can bring in a few dollars and allow me to expand both my skills in photography as well as how to work with a client and the business side of photography. My impression of who you are as a person and the level of your skills leads me to believe you can certainly make some money selling your work and services professionally. Best of luck back to you Ovidiu.
