personal website and watermarking
Just decided to create a very basic website as a way of keeping my photos in one place so I can show my friends and family.
I have only put the photos on small (717x480) but a couple of people have suggested I put some sort of watermark on them to ensure people don't use them as there own.
I hadn't thought about it really and to be honest I dont really care if people do use them.
Has anybody else branded their photos in this way? and do you think it's a good idea?

I'm not suggesting really, really small - if you use 900 x 600 that will fill most computer screens (when you allow for browser menus, tabs, etc., etc. In order to achieve good print quality you need 240-300 dpi - so a 900 pixel image will only allow for a 3" printed image. Not much good in many printed media. Regards.

Yep, Photoshop, Gimp, and am sure a slew of others will undo the watermarks. Keeping them small, at least with today's technology, is a very good idea--although not ideal to look at. Besides, would you loose photos to really cause you financial issues? Some, like Chris, enjoy placing is name on his photos; I may do that too one of these days.

I think keeping them small is the best protection. Watermarking, etc. is fairly ineffective (as they can be removed) and can occasionally ruin the photo. See my earlier posting today re. watermarking. This has been a much discussed topic in the past - you might like to look up the old forum postings. Regards.
