Quite often I play music in the background as I edit and I find that it makes a difference in how my edits turn out. I have also
noticed in my artists magazines that in showing artists studios there is quite
often a stereo system and racks of cds.
In fact one magazine did a complete article on using music while
creating works of art and gave some wonderful suggestions some of which I
already used and others completely new to me.
I have very eclectic taste in music and even if I didn’t use it for my
artistic endeavors I quite often enjoyed the new music for its own sake. I have recently discovered Pandora ( a internet radio service) which you type in an artist, song or genre and they play
that plus other music to match. Thus far
I have really enjoyed it and have yet to get a song I didn’t like. Better yet you can share your stations with
your friends on the site and experience many different types of music that you
might never discover otherwise. I would
dearly love to hear from others here on MSS about their musical tastes and how
they use it in their artist endeavors; we are artists you know.

Below is a partial list of what I use to edit by depending on my mood; Brainwave Symphony, Relaxation Company- KavaKava, Relaxation Company- YoYoMa, the Dvork Album- Enya, any of hers- Verdi’s Requiem, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra- Pirate’s of the Carribean
soundtrack; this was mentioned in the artists magazine article; it’s also great
for doing house work to- Bob
Marley- Iron Butterfly- Three Dog Night- Chicago-
David Arkenstone- Lord of the
Rings soundtrack- Mormon Tabernacle
Choir- Carl Orff I’d
also like to see you join me as a friend on Pandora where you can see an even
greater variety of my eclectic taste in music.

I often use my own music as background when I show friends my photo shows, I use Roland D-50, JX3p & MC303 plus I mix with sounds of steams and wind and bird song, I mix this all on a Zoom HD-16 Hard Disc recording mixer.

I am married to a DJ and our music collection goes back to the 40's every genre. So I change the music depending on my mood. I also play piano and was trained for classical piano.

Depends very much on my mood. Friday night for example, 70s hits, David Bowie, the Clash, Roxy Music, Up- beat. ( I'm always in a good mood on Friday night; a glass of whiskey helps too ) If it's late at night something more progressive, Pink Floyd, Archive Noise. Reggae is a good genre to edit by, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, Aswad, L.K.J. Women jazz and blues singers also do it for me, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington are favourites of mine.

A great website is www.pandora.com. You can make your own radio stations (up to ten) and choose the type of music you like for each. They will try to find music similar to ones you like and you can evaluate it (thumbs up or down). It's a great site. You can open it in a new window or tab while editing.
