I have been asked by a friend if I would agree to one of my photos being used to advertise an agricultural events calendar and if so how much would I charge. Has anyone any idea what the going rate would be???

And by perfect timing, I've literally just had a sale pop up on Alamy for a Royalty Free image (as in no people or recognisable places) for use in a calendar! $63!!

Comment by Andy Stevens on September 13, 2011 at 7:11pm Always a tricky one Jenny, especially when the word 'friend' appears as they will expect it for virtually nothing. I've had people ask expecting them for a few quid... And they could probably get images for virtually nothing from some Stock libraries which doesn't help.
I'm a member of the image library Alamy and have just done a quick calculation using one of my images as if someone were buying it for a calendar - for a modest print run in UK, they would be looking at £195! I suspect a friend wouldn't want to pay that!!
I guess you need to consider;
a) how much you would feel comfortable asking for
b) how much you like the particular image (as in how much is it 'worth' to you)
c) how much of a friend they are
d) is it for charity? Or are they planning to make a decent profit?
e) would you like to get your name 'out there' so you would be willing to take less as long as you were credited with a website address or something (like free/very cheap advertising).
Think about these factors and a price might pop into your head.
Good luck!
