Took up photography in 2008 and am learning more every day; Tell me what you think of my work--I'm a hands-on learner who takes constructive criticism well!
Drawn to lines, texture, and play of light when composing a frame, more than color or "story." A background in Asian art and graphic design is a heavy influence on how I compose, so I have a lot of negative space and "less is more" in my shots.
I'm borderline obsessed with monochrome, but often can't let go of that little bit of meaningful color, so end up doing a lot of selective colorization.
Haven't found my style yet (though I think I may be getting closer), but am enjoying the process of experimentation and discovery!
Beginning my foray into studio photography. I have by no stretch of the imagination exhausted all there is to learn about the qualities and best techniques to master natural light, but find myself wishing for more control in my shots. Picking this up as I go along, with a shoestring budget (read: home-made equipment), so feel free to pass along any nuggets of wisdom you have!

The re-edit looks very good...though original looked good to me as I didn't see the background as a distraction.
I agree, your B&W version stands out much better than the color sample you sent. One of the reasons B&W has remained so popular for many years in the film format has been because It's dynamic range is alot higher than color...even more so now with digital. Aside from that though, B&W has the ability to tell a stronger story at times where color can be distracting. I remain in love with color though...be it subtle or eye poppingly bright. Both (and as a combination mix) require much care to artfully convey what you see in the subject and wish the veiwer to understand. I think you are accomplishing all of this in your work and look forward to see much more in the future. I'll stay tuned....lol P2
