Following on from my last blog post. I quickly noticed the limitations of my flash setup, although I could do most things I wanted to, a few things were missing, a biggy being the ability to use second curtain flash. This function is often used in more creative flash photography and I wanted it! So, I dipped into my savings, and nipped down to my local Calumet. There I purchased amongst other more mundane things (stands, umbrellas etc) a Canon Speedlite 580EX2 - the daddy of all Canon flash.

I went shopping yesterday for new toys, here's what I bought:

Jessops Flash - This is just a basic hotshoe flash. I've been playing around with off camera flash and decided I wanted a second unit to play with different lighting. I already have a Sunpak unit, which is alright but not as good as a dedicated Canon unit. As a learner myself, I sympathise with those who have camera and are willing to try, but do not necessarily have a full grasp yet for all those settings available to them. When you're just starting out, all this talk of F numbers and iso's just doesn't make sense - its just double dutch. It soon seems totally overwhelming and a lot of would be photographers in the making give up and leave everything to the camera.

As far as my photography goes, I have a new camera, lots of decent kit, I have loads and loads of ideas for shots, but no time to realise them.

Everyday, I travel from Oldham to Dewsbury and back again over the Penines in my trusty Landrover. Every day, without fail I see some magnificent views, amazing sunrises and sunsets, atmospheric and moody panoramas and interesting technical shots present themselves to me.
