Nikon vs. Canon

Ask the shop keeper which one would survive and still work if you dropped them down a flight of stairs. That's what I asked when I was buying my first digital camera....that's why I'm now a Nikon use…

Computer Screens, Glossy or Matte

I prefer a glossy, I've got my office room painted a really dark green, I keep the lights low so reflections are kept to a minimum. I find the glossy give me (a sharper, more detailed image) or so it…

What do you like most about "night" photography?

I often like the need for a tripod, it slows the whole process down which gives the brain cells more time to think creatively. I enjoy working at a slower pace and don't much enjoy this idea that eve…

Well would you look at this, Fuji are bringing out a new medium format film camera which pops out of the front like a squeeze box. It's selling at £1,680.00.

Now I just happen to have one of these from the old days, it's called a Kodak 66 model III and it's been in my cupboard for years. Think I'll get it out, clean it up and start using it again, they say fashions always repeat! Looks like I'm trendy again!

Attended a great workshop today on product photography, picked up some real good ideas about how to simplify work-flow and minimising post production down to minutes for an entire shoot, never mind just one image. Cool stuff! I'll be adding some of the images to an album shortly.

Thank you so much for your very kind words on my work Paul, I am a lover of nature and find most enjoyment leaning how it captures it in that very moment. I will be back to visit often.. your work is inspiring.. :)

About Me:
I'm a Professional Photographer: Specialising in natural, informal portraiture and natural reportage weddings. I also enjoy creating B/W Fine Art works too and I really enjoy working with my older Bronica film equipment.

I'll basically have a crack at shooting anything, the subject matter is inconsequential to me, it's the learning to photograph it well that is the challenge and the enjoyment.

If asked however, I must say that my favourite type of photography is portraiture, classical, character style portrait work, where capturing atmosphere, lighting, mood and the character of the sitter are paramount. I still believe in some old fashioned principles of accurately exposed, in focus, thoughtful photography. Even in this 'speed' orientated digital era.

I have a learning/teaching philosophy: Why shoot ten shots badly, when you can study and learn to shoot one shot well? Apart from being a professional photographer I also run photography workshops for individuals and groups around the North East in the UK
