A day for the birds.

A day for the birds.

It was a fine sunny winter’s day, 17 C0. Yes! That’s a fine winter’s day here in Tasmania/Australia although 03/June is only the third day of winter; it doesn’t get better than that. I had some spare time on my hand and decided to go to a small lake at the outskirts of town Bird shooting, action Herons are action Heroes! It seems to be the ‘IN thing’ to shoot a Heron eating a fish, so there was my self-imposed brief.
I set the Nikon D300 up as per the bird’s t… Continue

A Foreword
This tutorial was prompted by a post from Francois in which he listed valuable points about photographing birds under the title ‘Bird Photography Tips’.
Francois listed 17 suggestions, ranging from camera settings to dos and don’ts of bird photography.
Francois has kindly allowed me to be an administrator of the bird group and he has invited all of us to contribute to the post.… Continue

Nikon 18-200mm VR II lens

I did not have a tripod with me when I went trout fishing yesterday but coming home to the boat ramp, the last boat came to shore as the sky presented itself in beautiful colour. I put my Nikon D300 on a solid tree stump base but hand held it.
This picture was taken in 'P' mod… Continue

Helmut, I wanted to thank your for your help on "On Fire" with the cropping etc. I've been playing with it since I took the picture but just couldn't get how to crop it down. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Helmit, i`m going to have to nickname you `The Artist` after your dramatic interpretation of my photo. I agree with you, the harbour wall and boat are a distraction. It was an unusual Saturday Morning, in one of my favourite seaside resorts of Bridlington, on the east coast of England. It was taken on the 8th of September 2007.
I have been visiting this resort since a child but this particular morning i have never seen the sea so calm and the sky so bright.
I tried my best to get the exposure true to the real scene.
It was a very bright sky and i wanted to try and capture the brilliant whiteness of it but my camera at the time wanted to underexpose.
As i recall i think i did increase the brightness level in post production. As far as i can remember my photo is near to what my human eye saw.
I hope you enjoyed creating your `Masterpiece!`
I am certainly open to comments and ideas from my fellow buddies in photography. Cheers.
