By the looks of it... it seems like we use it as how we use a filter that is mounted in front of the lens... the link below shows that it is a 52mm in diam. so it will not fit the EF lenses with 58 mm. so just check the front of your lens if it is 52 mm. then it will fit. I think it is good...

or check if other diameter sizes are available.
extension tubes (which I used) are mounted behind the lens, next to the cam body.
could not comment on the performance...just hunching maybe it will give a bit of softness in the image..just a hunch.
