Pentax K100D Plus Other Equipment for $500 ... Good Deal?

Well a Pentax K100D with the 18-55 f4 lens sells new for $649.00 on Amazon. You list a 16-45mm (or 55mm) lens there. Thats pretty much the same as the 18-55mm and at f3.5 is not much faster. Filter... Continue

Tripod Recommendations - Relatively High End

Hey, thanks for the update. And thanks for the info on the RRS head. I keep looking at the Arca, the RRS and the Kirk stuff (and a few others). This helps out.

About Me:
I started doing photography in grade eight when three of us (Arne Hermann, Andrew Kuprat and Myself) started a Photography Club at school. We convinced our science teacher Mr. Wong Moon to donate a small storage room to us that had a sink in it. It was perfect to get a darkroom setup. We pooled some money and acquired some supplies. When the teachers in charge of putting together the School Annual found out about the club, they asked for our help. We ran the club all three years we were there from grade eight to grade ten.

In Senior High School they actually offered a Photography Course. Even better, they offered a Special Double Block Photography Course. Everyone involved in that course helped out with the School Annual. We also had free access to the schools excellent Dark Room which had Beseler 23c’s in it. Our photography teacher Dietmar Waber, was one of the best teachers I ever had in my life. He influenced me and he is the one that encouraged me to help others. He noticed I got bored very easily and always challenged me and got me involved with teaching others. I owe a lot to him.

While in High School I ended up doing sports photography for some of the local papers including the Richmond Review, the Vancouver Sun and the Province. I even worked with Province Photographer Gary Karmann who still works for the paper today.

Once out of school I did fashion work and moved on to Nature and Landscape photography. I did some work for the Western Canada Wilderness Committee where I helped put together a Slide Presentation that was shown across Canada and Shown in the House of Commons in Ottawa. I worked for Minolta Canada during Expo 1986 in Vancouver and stopped doing photography shortly after that.

I have a Graphic Arts background. I have since owned my own computer company and I am just now getting back into photography to relax and to create art. I have recently gotten involved in Bird Photography and more recently involved in helping birds out through different groups and associations.

I have recently started a new Organization that will soon be a Registered Non-Profit Organization called “Nature By Photo”. Nature By Photo’s motto is “Saving Birds, Animals and the Environment One Photo at a Time!"

Nature By Photo allows photographers to donate the use (limited rights) of their photos to other Registered Non-Profit Organizations that are involved in helping Birds, Animals and the Environment. Photos can be used on Web Sites, in print on Post Cards, Posters and Advertising Material or even In Calendars and Books.

Organizations benefit by having the best quality photos available for their use at no charge and the photographers gain by having their work published with full credits.

You can get involved at www.naturebyphoto.com.

About f-Stops and Aperture

Several people have asked me about some f-stop information (some specifically about their lens). Here is a bit I have done this quickly to answer the questions but will later expand this to a "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About f-Stops" post. But for now . . . _________________________________________________ About f-Stops Don't worry about the confusion on Aperture; it confuses a lot of people. Basically the Aperture is the size of the hole that lets the light in. The bigger the hole th… Continue

July Photo Contest has been posted!

So its summer or perhaps even winter now where your are. But throughout the year your trusty companion is around. Lets see what the little (or big) pooch looks like. JULY PHOTO CONTEST THEME IS DOGS Here is the challenge. To create a High Quality Photo of a great Shot of a Dog. A real dog not a stuffed animal. Not a typical shot of a Dog laying around but something a little more unique. Perhaps a great portrait, or a guard dog guarding, or a dog running enjoying the freedom of a field o… Continue

Here is what is going on . . .

OK, Here is what is going on... As I mentioned, the site Admin is busy and is only usually around on the weekends. He is of the same mind as most of us about not having idiots causing trouble and chasing members (specially new members) away. He wants a peaceful site like it is now. That’s why he has rules and why he will enforce them. The enforcing part he will be cautious with as he should be because you just can't kick someone off because of one persons words or accusations. But, if it happ… Continue

4 New members have left in the last two days

Some of the new members that joined in the last two days have already left. Four of them to be exact. I wonder why that is. I actually saw some nasty comments left for them by others on this site. It appears that some people are trying to sabotage this site. To bad the admin doesn't care. I guess I could have said something but as many of you said, just keep your mouth shut.... well that seems to be working well . . . this site is better already.

thanks for the comment, i really learned alot from it, all my lenses are 18-55, 55-250, and 50 mm prime,i also want to get a macro lens but i dont want the EF-S lens and also i want to get one of the white L lens 70-200 2.8 and probably sell my 55-250, I like ur lense collection, i like all the ones that i have and my goal is to cover all the range from really close to wide angle, and long zoom. If u have any suggestions on what i should get in order to cover the full range of photography in lenses.

Hi..I need your expertise. I am getting confused with the aperture setting on my lens. One has 3.5 to 5.6, one has 4 to 5.6. The fist one is a standard lens of 18-70mm and the other is 55-200mm. What does this mean as my camera aperture goes up to about 22. How do I set the aperture to suit the lens?
