About Me:
Photography became a serious part of my life around 2001. I was injured at work and photography broke the boredom that follows when one is retired and has to adjust a day full of pain; and also adjusting to not participating in the fast paced world I use to live in. My father was a professional photographer for the city/county of Jacksonville/Duval County, Florida when I was 6-7 yoa. I remember his dark room, the smell of the chemicals and his photographs. I was hoping he would teach me this mysterious art he loved. However, he died when I was 7 and I never got to learn the "how to's" and his secrets. After my injury, I started shooting photos of and on and was told that the photos were good. That is when it became a passion, one that I want to master; however I feel that is a dream for me as there is so much to learn. I am 58 and I started way too late in life to get to his level, but by God I am going to try.
My Equipment
Nikon D800; Lens are: Nikon 24-70 and a Nikon 80-200. Sigma 150 macro lens and a Sigma 170-500.

Hi Earl, Read your profile. Really,.. too old to achieve that dream? I think not. Who makes the determination of when and what you have mastered, you do. It is a self satisfaction thing. I have been at this for a while and long ago realized that you only have to please yourself in your works. I shoot to record what I see, feel or just happen to stumble upon. If you like it, fine. If you don't, OK, but I am satisfied with what I did. So... I mastered it..in a way that pleases me. These day's there is only one secrets. We carry magic boxes with us. They are what let use use are ability to SEE and not have to worry too much about the technical side. Have a basic understanding of your camera. Experiment with it, learn what it can do so you don't have to stop and think about it when you are ready to shoot. You already have the ability to see beyond seeing, it's in your pictures.  No matter what brand or how expensive your gear is, it only records what you see...IT doesn't make great pictures, you do. I am 73 years old, I have worked most my life in photography. I am not a master of any part of it and that's OK. Have too much fun with it, lifes too short to waste it on nay sayers. :-)

Hi Earl, no, no secrets. For the most part I use a 200mm lens. ISO 400, Shutter speed varies between 1/340 and 1/1000. Depending on conditions ( sun, clouds, shade).

Earl,

thanks for your kind comments, Macro is really fun when its dark outside in the winter, then you start looking round the house, so many items to take and have fun with, winter is just not long enough...

Never missed an airshow at Lakenheath & Mildenhall 1965-1980's. In the seventies I remember the F100 Super Sabre's and Phantom's. I served in The parachute regiment 74-83 and sometimes emplaned at Mildenhall. Things are pretty quite now compared to the 70's Only this week the USAF announced that flying training at Lakenheath is to be reduced. I live in Peterborough,. our local USAF base Alconbury has been closed a number of years now

Sorry, you might metered on his pants which would have caused the camera to overexpose everything else thereby losing a bit of detail. It's a good capture.
