Yucca Rain

The Front Range has been dry. Snow pack was thirty percent of normal this year. Yucca plants thrive where there is very little water. Today it rained. The flowers on this yucca show residual moisture. The water will need to last until this time next…

"Perfect.  Bridges do much more that transport us from one side to another.  They also provide perspective, and a balance point not only from left and right, but from up and down."

"Yes the frame is "Busy" isn't it.  It is a new Aperture 3.1 plug-in called BorderFX It works very well. I just need to learn to be a minimalist with these new toys."

"I like, Dave. Very nice composition and tonality in b&w. Perhaps, from my point of view, the frame could be simpler."

Sound of Water Rough Cut

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 4:51am 1 Comment

I have been experimenting with my little Canon G10's video capabilities.  I am kind of a one camera wanderer.  Carrying more than one weapon of choice into the field takes some of the fun out of walking in the wild.  Mainly due to the weight. This short is an example of using the video and still functions of the G10 to pull together a presentation.  I am a rookie with video editing.  I find the sound to be extremely hard to levelize throughout the 1 and a half minutes of edit. Also the G10…

Again Water

More rain, and crackling atmosphere as a thunderstorm rolls over the South Table Mountain flat top behind my home.  I was hoping for a dry afternoon as yesterday was extremely wet, leaving my favorite biking trail slick with tar-like colloidal basalt mud.  This lead me to a more than disappointing morning ride on chimney rock, much more trail than I can ride without fear of sudden death.  Hence relegated to dawdling along behind walkers and dogs all ogling the out-of-bank condition of Clear…

Windy

Windy.  Spring here on the mountain is windy.  Winter here on the mountain is windy.  Summer here on the mountain is windy.  Fall here on the mountain is not so windy.  It is now spring and it is blowing hard.  Life on the eastern slope of the continental divide requires that you embrace the zephyr blast of air that is a result of temperature and pressure differentials betwixt the Great Plains and Front Range of the Rockies.  The katabatic winds that slide down along the contours of the… Continue

Transition

Posted on March 28, 2011 at 12:38am 1 Comment

I awoke in a new home this morning.  I slept deeply my Terri still does so.  This place has passed its first test.  The sleep test is important to us both.  No highway noise, no neighbor noise, just some sparrow song now as morning light begins to slice through the living room blinds.  It is spring.  There could not be another corollary for my life’s timeline right now.  An awakening from a long stasis, health after a long un-wellness, a new awareness from a long trial of blunt tribulation. …

Dave, the Catfish were seen in Hua Hin in Thailand at a monastery (of sorts) where you can feed them and watch them go into a 'frenzy' but you are not allowed to fish in any way....Damn.

Hello Dave,

I am quite well, the spring is here and although I am sitting at my office I am looking at the mountains around to plan where to climb with my sons. I am going to read my favorite book "Walden" by H.D.Thoreau. I think you have got also something from this great American in your soul and of course in your blogs and photos. Good luck!    jd***
