It is my deepest hope that all people, of all countries, will learn to accept one another and live in peace.

I'm just curious, does anyone produce photographs anymore that are "not" HDR? I like the effect of some, and i may be wrong but it seems like alot of folks are simply falling back on the HDR effect to carry a photograph that would otherwise be lacking in thought to exposure, composition, and planning. anythoughts on this?

Paul Atcliffe said… Doug, re. lighting. Honestly don't remember exactly as I took a whole bunch of these blossoms. Basically though my studio flash with an umbrella more or less straight on for this one and dialled down about 1 1/2 stops to provide an ambient light. One speedlight with a grid high left to burn in those blossoms measured with a flash meter and another speedlight with a snoot hand held and sort of waved about to highlight the bits that looked 'dull' on the camera LCD. (the blue flowers probably.) Two flashes on wireless and the hand held aim and pray with the snoot fired by its photo cell. My last wireless controller fired the camera on remote while I wandered around with the hand held flash. I kind of had a plan for the picture followed by a lot of trial and error to realize it.
