- I've been addicted to taking snapshots since the 6th grade, but only recently begun to explore how-tos and techniques. I've finally purchased my own DSLR and am eager to make that huge expense worth it. I'm trying to learn something new about photography everyday. It's not hard to learn more, but it seems impossible to learn enough.
P.S. I love new friends, but I don't accept friends who haven't posted any work yet (or even a profile picture) - I like to know that you'll be around MSS for a while / have made some effort before I open up my blog to you. It just makes me feel more comfortable. Thanks!

I usually keep my blog friend's-only so I don't pop up on the main page . . . but I wanted to say Merry Christmas to EVERYONE - the great, talented artists I've become friends with here - and the countless others I have yet to discover and learn from.

Big Move

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am moving to Connecticut (from VA) tomorrow. I don't know how long we will be without our belongings or internet - could be a while. So, if I don't respond to comments or comment on your wonderful pictures or post anything - that's why. I have already packed up the 40D as carry-on - so hopefully when DO return I'll have some worthwhile shots to share.

My shutterspace friend Jefferey is doing a fun project. He has posted several good shots of his dog and requested we rate them "delete" or "keep," in an effort to illustrate what constitutes an upload-worthy pet shot. If I had taken any of them, they would likely be on my page. This in itself is telling - what is good for me might be a delete for Jefferey? Then maybe it isn't "good enough" after all. It is an interesting way of challenging ourselves to do better and not settle. And bravo… Continue

Hey everyone. Some of you might already know about the Maidenform Photography Contest, but I thought I'd share. There is a $20,000 prize and chance to shoot an upcoming ad for Maidenform for the winner - and there is a lot of crap that has been submitted so far! My picture taking is in spurts. Took a whole bunch of a Band and I was on the cape a couple weekends ago took some there. Been playing with the Automate>Photomerge in CS4 to create some panoramas. I have been spending quite a bit of time attempting to learn post production with CS4 and Lightroom. I still feel like a dear in headlights when CS4 opens. I hope to take some time this weekend to capture the change of colors, it should be the peak autumn weekend. Ultimately, the weather has been horrible for getting out and taking pictures and this weekend sounds like it's not going to be the exception.

I also practice the rendering of the image and do some work in a lightroom. Adobe Photoshop is my tool of choice. Remember; "only show your good images". In this case, this is my front door view and as I've lived here for fifteen years, it would stand to reason that sooner or later I would get a decent image.
