what is f stop, and it will it be better quality if i shoot 17 18 mm and then make a close of the person? because i cannot shoot on the scene, i can only from chairs of audience, and thats far

Keep the low number of  " f stop " and keep the Focal Length of Lens in Infinity means ... lowest number like the  starting 17 mm ,18 mm
