The Red-billed Oxpecker (Buphagus erythrorhynchus) is a bird which perches on the backs, necks and faces of large mammals where they feed on ticks, botfly larva and other parasites, but they also reopen healing wounds and use open ones to drink the blood of their hosts. Shot hand-held in the Tuli area of Botswana with a Nikon D90 and Nikkor 70-300mm zoom at 270mm giving an effective 400mm.
