Rules & Guidelines

This is how it works:
Every week from Monday to Sunday there will be a challenge for a particular theme. You can enter the challenge by submitting one entirely new photo, which was taken after the challenge has been announced (no archive shot) . Read on for further details.

PARTICIPATING IN A CHALLENGE

-

In the "Discussion Forum" section you can find threads with challenges. You can identify the current challenge by the ending date stated in it's name. Read the description of the challenge and submit ONE shot according to that description.

To submit an image use the "reply" box underneath the challenge description. On the top of the reply box you will see a small icon that looks like a small image, click on it. In the next window select a file from your harddrive or use URL.
You may submit additional images, that will not be judged. Please mark every additional image as 'Non Entry' or 'NE'. All photographs (entries and non entries) have to be new. They have to be taken after the challenge has been announced!

The winner of the challenge will be the host of the next challenge. Thus if you have entered a challenge you have to check back and see the winners. If you are the winner, you have to start a new challenge as soon as you can.

Please, do not cheat. There is basically no reason to cheat. There are no prizes to win. It's all about fun and creativity. Every submission of an old photograph will be counted as a cheating attempt and punished with one month suspession from this group.

STARTING A NEW CHALLENGE
-

Only winners of a challenge may start a new challenge.

Go to the "Discussion Forum" area below, on the bottom left you will see "+Add a discussion". Click on +Add a discussion. It will ask you for a title. Put the theme of your challenge in the title.

In the "post" box, write a short description on what you would like to see. Try to choose something that everyone can photograph within a week (e.g. it is less likely to get many submissions for a mountain theme). Please, do not post any example photos.

When the challenge is over and you've picked the top 3 winners, create a new discussion again  (+Add a discussion) and post the winning photographs and your comments there. To post an image in a new discusson you have to right click on the image, copy it's URL, then use the image button in your newly created discussion (like you did when you submitted your entry) and paste the URL in there.

Note: Every challenge has to end on a Monday! (to keep things simple)

Wow I've missed a good bit of this discussion since I've been away!! Was away in Italy so I'll look through my photos for some windows.
My view on it would be "New Photos Only" and "No Examples". Simples!! :-))

And of course a big congrats to our new mod Sandy!!

Thanks Heinrich for the update. Hope you can still participate now and again!

Since I execute my moderator tasks so poorly lately, I asked Sandy to help me out.

I am happy to announce that he agreed. So from now on Sandeep S Rajan is our new moderator :)

As it is stated in the rules, you shouldn't post example shots of any kind (old or new).

Anita already guessed my thoughts.  It's all about creativity and personal interpretation. It worked very well in the last two years (I just looked it up, I did not know this group is that old) and I don't want to change it.

Comment by Gareth Davies on November 22, 2012 at 8:29am

granted.. interpretation is nice.. some people may just want exactly what they ask for though.. i didn't submit my photo as an entry because i didnt want it to be discarded as (for want of a better word) foolishness.. thus me loosing my chance of winning.. i'd like to submit a shot that is within the exact criteria of what the host is looking for..

There are pros and cons to add photos to the explanation of a topic. There is more room for personal interpretation of a topic, if you do not add photos and may surprising Photos may be submitted, as you've just proven ...

Comment by Deborah Russenberger on November 22, 2012 at 7:37am

I totally agree with you Gareth, I think for examples it should be fine, especially since we have members from all over the world and English words could be misinterpreted and examples would help with confusion. :)
