Hi I tried GIMP for the first time yesterday and already found stuff that wowed me. This is going to be a very interesting learning experience.

Hi! I started using GIMP this week to do selective coloring. I LOVE this!! I have even been able to instruct my friends over the phone on how to install and use this edit. I recommend it to anyone interested in learning new ways to edit. I was even able to make a beautiful watermark of my name for my pictures!!! I can't stress enough how much I freeeeking love this program!!!

I have had GIMP for about 5 years now and find it like a blank wall. I can't for the life of me get my mind around how to drive it despit having read helps and tuts on it - it is for me like algebra and makes no sense whatsoever - but luckily I didn't have to pay for it or I would really be going crook.

As web publisher of the Cyberspace Ashram I use Linux on server and laptop - and Gimp since many years as the only image manipulation software. I am very happy Gimp user. Pretty much all graphics, gif and photos are Gimp made/manipulated. Many thousand photos. I have no open wishes or missing featres so far.

The Gimp is an standard in unix world. Gimp was not started as replacement of any commercial software. So don't look on it just as an replacement for photo shop. Gimp was created in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis as semester-long project at the University of California, Berkeley. Gimp originally stands for General Image Manipulation Program. After graduate Kimball and Mattis joined GNU project and Gimp's name was changed to GNU Image Manipulation Program.
Gimp is not only de facto standard image manipulating software on unix like operating system. GTK+ user interface was originally written for Gimp. Now GTK+ is standalone project that is wildly used on unix. For example GNOME desktop environment using GTK+ as engine.
