Monthly Assignment Rules

These are just general rules and recommendations, all assignments will have their specific rules and topics. Please adhere to them so we can maximise the learning experience.

1.) No previously shot pictures. You must shoot exclusively for the assignment, otherwise what's the point? (This means no old shots that just happen fit the topic.)

2.) You can submit as many entries as you want.

3.) This is not a contest,(there is a contest page if you feel confident enough to enter) if you have trouble getting it right, it is highly recommended you upload your attempt and let our friendly members help you to figure it out. Do not be afraid to upload "failed" shots.

4.) Tell us about your shot: Settings (f-stop, shutterspeed, flash, etc.), If you don't know how to find out, ask! Did you set up the shot in a certain way? Is there a story? This group is not a photo album, so don't just post your pics without comments.

Hi Dennis,
your point in question is called pop art or colour popping.
You can achieve this with your Photo software.

Soory for not being clear - what I meant is, the pictures taken according to he assignment , is there a particular place where to download in the Beginers Group or just use as stated in my previous msg the Quick Add...

I am not sure if i am doing the right thing. Do we upload the photos just by using the Quick Add.. or is there a specific site for the beginers group to send the photos according to the assignment. Tks

No i dont use pop up but use a sb900 to shoot pictures. You think if I reduce the power output by 1 stop it will balance as a fill light. Thanks
Rob Smith Comment by Rob Smith on March 27, 2010 at 7:00pm
Hi Niraj, I've just had a look at you site, and I think the problem is not so much one of white balance, but more of a problem with your flash overpowering the shot a little. If you are using a pop up flash, you can buy a diffuser like this one from Amazon (It also has two colour diffusers to warm or cool your shot).

If you us a separate flash, you should add a diffuser to that too like a Sto-Fen OM-EW Omni Bounce Flash Diffuser, but the main thing to do is angle your flash head up to the ceiling. If you are doing event photography with a 50mm lens, try angling your flash head with diffuser attached up and backwards slightly. You'll find it a much softer light and also loose the harsh shadows you are getting in some of your shots (the shots with a mic in the foreground).

Hope that helps.
