Those who know me will know I love macro and spend lot of time in bushes and mud looking for bugs (I know, I should get out more!!). This particular shot was one I wanted to get for a long time. Having taken literally hundreds of shots of Hoverflies, I really wanted to get one in profile, on a flower and against a black background. I had hoped that this would highlight their detail more than a colourful background would - and I think it does. I finally got this shot after spending 3 hours sitting next to the same flower, shooting every hoverfly that landed until I got this one in the perfect position, sharp, exposed correctly and with enough Flash fall-off to blacken the bushes behind. What do you think..?
This picture was taken in Kananaskis Alberta. During the summer months the white 'grass' that you see here is a fluffy green carpet, the grass turns white after the first frost. I didn't realise this until I took this shot. It's one of my many favourites.
Wow Scott. Really is worth the 3 hr wait. Trying to capture what the mind can imagine in a macro sense is a lot of fun, I admit. But tell me, only being rather new at this, how did you create the black background?
Hey David I am also an Ansel Adams fan and a great fan of Black and White, I love the sky and the contrast in the shot, it is beautiful yet forboding at the same time,
