Shutter speed beyond 30 seconds

Set the mode dial to "B" [bulb mode]

And don't forget to use a remote shutter trigger (and to disable IS if you have it).

also dont forget tripod or some sturdy surface-handholdong won't do for long shutter speeds. It's fun once you get the hang of it!  :)

Hi Juanita! Thanks for the follow up! Yes, I figured out! Canon 550D doesn't have a "Bulb" mode in the dial but shutter speed changes to "Bulb" after 30 seconds! I have a 60D and it has a separate "Bulb" mode in the dial but shutter speed stops at 30 seconds in Manual mode! That's were all the confusion came! I am glad now. :-)
