With the nights being clear and crisp I am trying my hand at photographing the stars. Can anyone give me some ideas and sites to check out ? Thank you

This one's good http://www.astropix.com/
I've got a good local site in the UK that has an 'In the sky tonight' section. You might want to search out an astronomy group in your region that has updates on what's showing up in the sky and at what time. Take it that you've discovered the Google Sky Map app for smart phones - really useful for finding objects.
Good luck!

Basically you get star trails after 20-30 seconds. and I learned you could do high iso night time shooting a few months ago. A bit noisy or grainy but it worked to my surprise. And to remind myself of what kind of settings to use I refer back to the info hiway before heading out!
I reference this blog a bit....'You'd think I'd remember after awhile, :)
