Permalink Reply by Greg Maklae on December 6, 2012 at 8:43pm This is a classic example of why the most important information your camera gives you is the histogram. Here, the highlights, right edge of the histogram, are clearly overexposed, and a faster shutter speed is required. This is why you should never shoot in AUTO. Learn to shoot in aperature or shutter priority, check the histogram after each shoot, and make the necessary adjustments. It is usually possible to pull detail out of the shadows, left side of histogram, by over exposed highlights are lost forever. By playing with the histogram, I was able to pull more, but not all detail out of the image. Also be aware of the sun position when shooting.
take pic with sun behind or to one side of subject, touch of fill in flash, (to prevent unnatractive shadows), it's always better to start off with a good image straight from the camera, instead of being tempted to over edit post capture, if your camera shoots in raw use it, you can coax about 10% more detail.
