Hi Kelly.

When shooting into the sun, try setting your exposure for the background.

You can do this by using a smaller aperture (higher f-number) or increasing your shutter speed.

Then use some fill flash for your subject, or else the people in your photo will be almost entirely black.

The info on your picture shows a shutter speed of 1/125. Try the same shot with a shutter speed of 1/250 or higher.

Then blow some flash into their faces (not too much, tough).

Read the manual of your D3000 where it says something like "flash exposure compensation" which will show you how to use more or less power for your flash (whether it's the popup flash of your D3000 or a compatible speedlight)

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Christian

Had a go but didn't get too far.

Expose for the background and use a fill light, would help a lot.

Did the best I could for you, next time use a little fill light from a flash or a reflector

Here is the best I could do... The sky is hopeless in my view. You might try a polarizing filter when shooting that angle in the sun. Tone mapping helped the most ... used PSP4X

Here's a quick Lightroom 4 fix
