Do you Feel Embarrasse taking Pictures in the Public?

There are times that I want to take some Pictures of certain things or event thats happening. I feel werid when I want to buzz in with my camera and everyone is looking at you and you feel like making fool out of your self. Or you feel some place cannot bring camera in and such, which you really want to take picture of something. Have any of these experience happen to you?

Danny, I have the same problem. In the smaller functions, where it's a gathering or function for the organization I belong to, I usually ask. I was at a fireworks show last night and there were a group of kids playing with sparklers. I wanted to click away but I couldn't. It's that fear in me that a parent or someone is going to come up and ask what the heck I'm doing taking pictures of their kid. And yes, I do share that feeling when it comes to taking random pictures of strangers at an event where I don't know anyone. I've watched several times and thought, that would have been a great photo, but was just too afraid to pull out my camera. I would like myself to be able to get over that fear.

Hmm i think it is one of these cases where you overthink the situation. Of course it might seem a little odd to some parents if a stranger walks up to their kid and start taking pictures, but i also think that if you are acting the right way its mostly your brain thats acting up and inventing all these crazy ideas and overthink the situation. Or am i misstaken?

Whoaahahaha.. i got the same feeling too before, most the time in market places or even in public utility vehicles...
but i realize? what if that thing would be a perfect moment to catch? i would surely regret if i didnt do somthing about
it. - so i take the risk..yah people around looking at you makes you bleed but i dont care...as long as im not doin anything bad or offensive...

thats the perfect attitude to have. i go off on photography jaunts with my camera and shoot whatever i like although i do sometimes feel like a fool. on the other hand i realized that people are hardly bothered by what you are doing as long as its well within the law.

in fact one has to be careful while taking pics of people in uniform like policemen. of course if i have to shoot people i do it brazenly and if they kind of flinch i take permission to shoot them and they dont seem to mind that much.

Me too which is why I often times photograph people with a telephoto lens. Few of the subjects ever knew they were captured by my Canon.

thats a good one tho. I need to try that with tele lens! Good suggestion!

For me it depends on the occasion. If it is a general situation like in a mall or park, I don't feel embarassed coz I hate the feeling that I wanted to do something and at the end of the day I keep blaming myself for not doing so. Photography is a "grab the chance" hobby. You can never rewind or redo any good instance or event. For formal gatherings, be aware if it is permitted, just stay on the right places. If you want to shoot people, ask permission. As a whole, most often, I'm not embarassed.

ive recently gone from a v good point and shoot to an SLR and i find i get 10 times more stares and feel quite uncomfortable sometimes!! i dont like to shoot pictures with children in unless they are family or friends children because the backlash can be nasty but ive often captured adults in the street but i try to do it from behind or from a distance!!! would love to try out the tele photo lens!! :D
