So, I'm doing my first official photoshoot for a 2009 Calander. I will be working with Glamour models and I was just wondering if anybody had any tips/suggestions when it comes to working with a lot of exposed skin, composition, lighting, etc.? I will be doing a lot of these shots outside at night time. Some will be inside though.

Thank you.
That's very sweet. :) Probably some of the better advise I would have gotten. I know a couple of the models I will be working with so, that eases the tension a little bit. You're definatley right about the nervousness though, I did a family portrait shoot for my sister and her family & I was extremely nervous because we didn't have proper lighting & backgrounds. I think I work better with natural surrounding and movement. I enjoy taking pictures of children playing, my niece is a great model. Haha. So, you're advise is most definatley helpful. :)

Hey, I am doing a 2009 calendar this Saturday, with a single model, lots of exposed skin. Good makeup is very important to me, and very soft lighting. Really soft.

Do you have any ideas on how to create a softer lighting in night time? My concern is that the shots are going to come out shadey.

If you're shooting at night you're most likely going to need some kind of flash. You can soften the flash by using a diffuser like a soft box or umbrella. Even better to use a second flash to fill in and soften the shadow areas.

Spend some time looking at other work. Look at how models are posed, how the lighting is, where the shadows are and figure out how it's done. Don't copy ideas, put your own mark on the shots but why not learn from pros that have already done it? Do a google image search for glamour calendar photo shoot' or similar and take some time to browse.
Definitely be yourself, get to know the models(s) first and ask them what they're comfortable with (they will be easier to work with in their comfort zone, although don't let them dictate the shots - it's YOUR shoot - they are simply a 'prop' for want of a better word!)
Then relax, be confident and use your imagination!

Enjoy

Very good idea. I was avoiding looking into other work too much because I didn't want somebody else's ideas and work to accidentally. I didn;t want to get too much of somebody else's work into my head because subconciously it would be in the back of my head and might accidentally be mimiced. But,your advise is deffinatly of some help because I never thought about examing other's work for tips. :) Perfect, thanks.
